Dr. Laurel Young, who has spent years training to become a Handler, must remain detached from her patients. is an excellent start of the Paladins of Darkness series.
New world, new ideas and new villains. Everything for the reader to sit and relax while drowning deeper and deeper into the dangerous world of the Paladins. Or maybe I shouldn't say relax, since it offers a thrilling mix of danger, ruthless enemies and passion.
It's an engaging story about Devlin, the Paladin warrior and his "Handler" Dr. Laurel Young fighting for survival as much as their newly found feelings against rules, enemies and deception. Dark Protector
has not only interesting and strong-willed heroes, but also the whole group of secondary characters enforcing the story and creating possibilities for their own future books.
And while I have read better and probably will again, I am not going to critique it, though if I was picking nits, I would probably find them. Actually, I know a few already, but the thing is - I really enjoyed the book. And I think it is the most important thing.
Of course, there are quite a few questions to answer about the warriors, but since it's the first book in the series, it is natural to be a bit in the dark. It's the process of stepping into the light inch by inch is what fascinates me.
Anticipation gives an extra flavor to the taste. And right now, it is something hot, spicy and delicious.
